ByHeart is a rising star in the infant formula space, literally the first new U.S. producer to emerge in decades. Join us as Devon shares her insights into ByHeart’s choice to pursue an organic, grass-fed business model for their infant formulas, framed by the global dairy challenges and opportunities shared in the dairy expert roundtable that precedes Dr. Kuehn’s presentation.
Is the ByHeart strategy just a timely capture of a near-term, niche opportunity, or will future competitiveness for U.S. dairy producers depend on adapting to similar characteristics to remain competitive on the global stage as we continue to supply ingredients into these value-added applications?

Dairy is a leading source of high quality, complete nutrition across the globe, and here in the U.S. it has enjoyed an outstanding track record of food safety which is all the more impressive for the scale of our industry and the diversity of our products. Consumer trends stem from a potentially delicate balance between influence and facts. In this session, three subject matter experts will dive more deeply into specific industry trends and explore their consumer implications, helping us to understand more fully what lies ahead of us on the food safety landscape and what we should consider in crafting a competitive strategy for our businesses and our industry. Moderated by Andy Powers, ADPI.

Moderated by KJ Burrington of ADPI, dairy proteins take the stage in this second half of our Ingredient Insights sessions. Matthew Barry of international market intelligence firm Euromonitor will deliver a comprehensive overview of dairy protein utilization in both the U.S. market and abroad, using an extensive pool of research data to illustrate and inform on the latest protein-driven trends. Next we will enjoy a nutrition-focused presentation from Dr. Matthew Pikosky, vice president of nutrition research for the National Dairy Council (and ADPI Center of Excellence expert) as he explains the ever-increasing importance of dairy proteins in fulfilling the dietary needs of strategic consumer segments of the ingredients markets, ranging from child nutrition to healthy aging. Finally, we will take a deep dive into dairy protein hydrolysates led by Pam Coleman, the Chief Innovation Officer at AOAC, who will explain the supply chain rationale driving her organization’s work in support of this important, growing category of dairy proteins, and how this rationale is driving AOAC’s upcoming project to characterize the functional and nutritional properties of these ingredients while easing the risks associated with potential supply chain disruptions.
