Valorization of Sustainability Gains: Insets and Allocations, Farm to Factory Jessie Deelo•Sarah Michalek•Jeremy Pike•Andy Powers•Paul Myer
Those familiar with dairy already know that most of our industry’s gains on the emission of greenhouse gases are found on the farm. Where the farmer’s work concludes, the processing factories take over. Today’s dairy processors operate complex, but energy-efficient facilities designed from the ground up to contribute as little as possible to the total carbon footprint that accompanies the incoming milk. But with several different products all under one roof in the processing plant, how do processors allocate that complete carbon footprint across each separate product, leaving nothing on the table but at the same time avoiding double counting?
In the first part of this session, our speaker from Athian will present on the necessarily rigorous verification and certification of GHG reductions on the farm, and how the insetting of the associated carbon credits helps to keep carbon gains within the dairy value chain, delivering bottom-line value. Then Jessie Deelo, Jeremy Pike, and Sarah Michalek will explain how carbon footprint values for the incoming milk are logged at the plant gate and distributed accurately and easily across the range of the facility’s many product outputs, all with the same rigorous accountability, based on industry case studies.

Technical Session: Mapping the New Global Regulatory Terrain: Familiar Signposts and Uncharted Territory Nick Gardner•Andy Powers
The food industry’s global regulatory machinery churns ever onward, continuing to transform every feature of the dairy landscape, whether in its usual deliberate, measured, incremental strides, or in more abrupt, potentially even disruptive, ways.
Under the current administration, changes such as the implementation of tariffs are set to alter trade flows, and sweeping reformation of Health and Human Services, the Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be materializing their respective impacts across our industry. With the U.S. contribution to global regulation being restructured almost daily, what features will emerge as defining for this new age, and what familiar features will remain? Will a redesigned U.S. regulatory environment continue to provide global guidance and leadership, or will new powers emerge to shape the regulatory world of dairy?
Join us for this session on the evolving regulatory landscape where Nick Gardner takes us on a journey across the new global regulatory terrain and shares thoughts on the emerging new balance between resilience and reformation, followed by an interactive Q&A with ADPI’s Andy Powers.
